Testing Campaigns

Always test your campaigns before activating them. Testing lets you see exactly what your customers will receive.

Why Test?

  • Catch errors - Spot typos, broken tokens, or formatting issues
  • Preview layout - See how emails render on different devices
  • Verify tokens - Confirm personalisation variables display correctly
  • Check links - Ensure the portal link and buttons work

Test Methods

Test a Single Step

Send a test for one specific step:

  1. Open your campaign
  2. Find the step you want to test
  3. Click Send Test Email or Send Test SMS on the step card
  4. Enter your test email address or phone number
  5. Click Send Test

Test All Steps

Send test messages for every step in the campaign:

  1. Open your campaign
  2. Click the ... menu in the header
  3. Select Send Test
  4. Enter your email address
  5. Click Send Test

All email steps will be sent to your address. SMS steps require a phone number.

Test All First

Testing all steps at once helps you review the complete customer journey and ensure the sequence makes sense.

What You'll Receive

Test Email Content

Test emails include:

  • Your email subject line
  • Formatted body content with paragraphs and lists
  • Personalisation tokens replaced with sample data
  • Portal link button (if included)
  • Your company branding (logo, colours)

Sample Data

Test messages use sample customer data:

TokenTest Value
{contact.first_name}Jane
{contact.last_name}Smith
{contact.full_name}Jane Smith
{contact.email}jane@example.com
{company.name}Your actual company name
{portal.link}Clickable button

Common Issues

Tokens Not Replacing

Problem: You see {contact.first_name} instead of a name.

Solution: Check that you've typed the token exactly as shown, including the curly braces. Use the Insert Token dropdown to ensure correct spelling.

Email Formatting Looks Wrong

Problem: Paragraphs run together or lists don't format.

Solution: Ensure you have blank lines between paragraphs. For lists, start each line with -, *, (bullets) or 1., 2. (numbered).

Problem: The portal link appears as plain text instead of a button.

Solution: Make sure you're using {portal.link} (not {portal_link} or similar). The token must be on its own line or paragraph for button styling.

SMS Truncated

Problem: Part of your SMS message is cut off.

Solution: SMS messages over 160 characters may split into multiple messages. Keep test messages concise.
