Map View

The Map View displays all your scheduled visits on an interactive Google Map, making it easy to visualise your crew's workload, plan efficient routes, and manage scheduling across multiple days.

Accessing Map View

  1. Go to Schedule
  2. Click the Map button in the view switcher (alongside Day, Week, Month)

When to Use Map View

Map View is particularly useful for:

  • Route planning - See where visits are located and how far apart they are
  • Geographic clustering - Identify when visits in the same area are scheduled on different days
  • Multi-day overview - View up to several weeks of visits at once
  • Quick rescheduling - Move visits between teams or dates directly from the map
  • Route optimization - Access the route optimizer for any team/day combination

Understanding the Interface

The Map

The main area displays an interactive Google Map with:

  • Numbered markers - Each visit appears as a coloured pin with its route order number
  • Colour coding - Markers are coloured by date, making it easy to distinguish different days
  • Map/Satellite toggle - Switch between road map and satellite imagery
  • Click to view details - Click any marker to see visit information

The Sidebar

The right sidebar provides filtering and navigation:

  • Select All checkbox - Show or hide all visits at once
  • Date groups - Each date shows as a collapsible section
  • Team rows - Under each date, teams are listed with:
    • Checkbox to show/hide that team's visits
    • Team colour indicator
    • Number of visits (pill badge)
    • Total scheduled hours
    • Optimize button (appears on hover)

Show More Days

By default, Map View loads 7 days of visits. Click Show Next 7 Days at the bottom of the sidebar to load additional weeks. This is useful for longer-term planning.

Filtering Visits

By Date

  • Check/uncheck a date to show or hide all visits for that day
  • Checking a date automatically checks all teams within it
  • Unchecking a date hides all visits regardless of team settings

By Team

  • Check/uncheck individual teams within a date
  • Useful for focusing on one crew's route
  • Team checkboxes are nested under their date

Visual States

StateMarker Appearance
CheckedFull opacity, prominent
UncheckedFaded (50% opacity)
Hovered dateFull opacity for that day, others faded

TIP

Hover over a team row in the sidebar to highlight that team's route on the map and see the polyline connecting their visits in order.

Viewing Visit Details

Click any marker on the map to open an info popup showing:

  • Job title and visit number
  • Property address
  • Scheduled time and duration
  • Team assignment
  • Visit status (scheduled, in progress, completed)

From the popup, you can:

  • View Visit - Open the full visit details drawer
  • Reschedule - Change the date or team assignment
  • Optimize Route - Open route optimization for this team/day

Rescheduling from Map View

The Map View offers a quick way to reassign visits without leaving the map:

  1. Click a marker to open the popup
  2. Click the Reschedule dropdown button
  3. Select a new Team from the dropdown
  4. Select a new Date from the calendar
  5. Click Save to apply changes

The marker will update immediately to reflect the new assignment.

WARNING

Rescheduling a visit updates the visit record. For recurring jobs, only this specific visit is moved - the recurring pattern is not affected.

Route Visualization

Hover to See Routes

When you hover over a team row in the sidebar:

  1. That team's markers become highlighted
  2. A polyline appears connecting the visits in their scheduled order
  3. The route colour matches the date colour

This helps you quickly assess:

  • How spread out the visits are
  • Whether the route makes geographic sense
  • Potential opportunities to cluster visits better

Route Polyline Colours

Routes use the same colour as their date's markers, making it easy to identify which day you're looking at when multiple routes are visible.

Route Optimization

From the Sidebar

  1. Hover over any team row
  2. Click the Optimize button that appears
  3. The Route Optimization modal opens for that team/day

From a Marker Popup

  1. Click any marker
  2. Click Optimize Route in the popup
  3. Opens route optimization for that visit's team and date

What Optimization Does

The route optimizer calculates the most efficient visit order based on:

  • Travel distances between properties
  • Estimated travel times
  • Your specified start/end locations

See Route Optimization for detailed instructions.

Best Practices

Daily Route Review

Start each morning by:

  1. Opening Map View
  2. Checking today's date
  3. Reviewing each team's route for efficiency
  4. Optimizing any routes that look inefficient

Weekly Planning

Use Map View for weekly planning by:

  1. Loading the next 7-14 days
  2. Looking for visits in the same area on different days
  3. Rescheduling to create geographic clusters
  4. Reducing travel time by grouping nearby properties

Geographic Clustering

To improve efficiency:

  1. Look for isolated markers far from others on the same day
  2. Check if nearby markers exist on different days
  3. Consider swapping visits to create tighter geographic clusters
  4. Use the hover feature to visualise routes before and after changes

Multi-Crew Coordination

When managing multiple teams:

  1. Check all teams for a given day
  2. Look for opportunities to swap visits between teams
  3. Ensure each team has a logical geographic territory
  4. Avoid crossing paths that waste fuel and time
