Dark Mode
YardPilot supports both light and dark colour schemes. Dark mode reduces eye strain in low-light environments and can save battery on devices with OLED screens.
Switching Themes
To toggle between light and dark mode:
- Click the Settings icon (gear) in the sidebar
- In the dropdown menu, click Dark Mode or Light Mode
- The interface switches instantly
The toggle shows the opposite of your current theme — if you're in light mode, it says "Dark Mode" to switch.
How Preferences Work
YardPilot remembers your theme preference:

| After choosing | Your choice is remembered on that browser |
| Different device | You'll need to set your preference again |
System Preference
If you haven't explicitly chosen a theme, YardPilot follows your operating system:
- macOS: System Preferences → Appearance → Light/Dark
- Windows: Settings → Personalisation → Colours → Choose your mode
- iOS/Android: System settings → Display → Dark mode
When your system switches (e.g., scheduled dark mode at sunset), YardPilot switches with it — unless you've manually chosen a theme.
Where Dark Mode Applies
Dark mode affects:
- CRM — Full dark mode support across all screens
- Client Portal — Customers can toggle dark mode too
- Admin Panel — System administrators have dark mode
Tips for Dark Mode
When to Use Dark Mode
- Late evening or night work
- Dim environments
- Reducing screen brightness
- Personal preference
When to Use Light Mode
- Bright environments
- Showing screen to customers (higher contrast)
- Printing or screenshots
Troubleshooting
Theme keeps resetting
Your browser may be clearing localStorage. Check that:
- You're not in private/incognito mode
- Your browser isn't set to clear data on close
- No browser extensions are blocking localStorage
Some elements look wrong
If you notice display issues in dark mode:
- Refresh the page (Cmd+R or Ctrl+R)
- If the issue persists, try toggling to light mode and back
- Report the issue to support with a screenshot
Mobile app theme
The mobile web app respects the same theme toggle. For the best experience, ensure your browser supports dark mode and your device isn't forcing a specific theme.
