Schedule Weather

See weather forecasts directly on your schedule to make smarter planning decisions.

Viewing Weather on the Schedule

Weather information appears on the schedule calendar:

Day View

The day header shows:

  • Current/forecasted temperature (high)
  • Rain probability percentage
  • Weather icon (sun, cloud, rain, etc.)

Week View

Each day column header displays:

  • Temperature for the day
  • Small weather icon
  • Rain probability shown as a colored indicator

Month View

Each day cell shows:

  • Compact weather icon
  • Temperature in small text
  • Days with high rain chance are highlighted

Weather Location

The forecast location is determined by:

  1. Scheduled visits - If you have visits that day, weather is based on the average location of all scheduled visits
  2. Company address - If no visits are scheduled, weather uses your company's address (automatically geocoded)
  3. First property - Falls back to the first property with coordinates if company address isn't set

This ensures the forecast is relevant to where your team will actually be working.

Automatic Geocoding

When you save a property or update your company address, YardPilot automatically converts the address to GPS coordinates. No manual setup required!

Multiple Locations

If visits are spread across a wide area, the weather shown is for the central point. Individual visit locations may have slightly different conditions.

Understanding the Display

Temperature

  • Displayed in Celsius (Australian standard)
  • Shows the high temperature for the day
  • Colour-coded for quick recognition:
    • Blue: Cool (under 15°C)
    • Green: Comfortable (15-25°C)
    • Orange: Warm (25-32°C)
    • Red: Hot (over 32°C)

Rain Probability

  • Shown as a percentage (0-100%)
  • Indicates chance of rain at any point during the day
  • Visual indicators:
    • No indicator: 0-20% (unlikely)
    • Light blue: 20-50% (possible)
    • Blue: 50-80% (likely)
    • Dark blue: 80-100% (very likely)

Planning with Weather

Identifying Weather Risks

Look for days with:

  • High rain probability (>60%) for outdoor services
  • Extreme temperatures (>35°C or <5°C) for crew safety
  • Storm indicators for scheduling adjustments

Weather-Sensitive Services

Consider weather when scheduling:

Service TypeWeather Concern
Lawn mowingWet grass cuts poorly, damages lawns
Pool chemicalsRain dilutes treatment, wastes product
PaintingRain ruins fresh paint, humidity affects drying
LandscapingHeavy rain makes soil unworkable
Pressure washingPointless if rain follows
FertilisingHeavy rain washes away product

Proactive Customer Communication

When you see bad weather forecast:

  1. Identify affected visits on the schedule
  2. Contact customers proactively to reschedule
  3. Document weather-related reschedules in visit notes

Automation Coming Soon

Future updates will allow automatic notifications to customers when weather may affect their scheduled service.

Forecast Availability

  • Today + 6 days - 7-day forecast available
  • Beyond 7 days - No weather data shown
  • Historical dates - No forecast (past weather not displayed)

Weather forecasts are updated hourly for the current day and every 6 hours for future days.

Troubleshooting

No weather showing

  1. Check that visits have properties with complete addresses (street, city, state, postcode)
  2. Properties are automatically geocoded when saved - if coordinates are missing, try re-saving the property
  3. Ensure your company has an address set in Settings (used as fallback)
  4. If still missing, the weather service may be temporarily unavailable

Weather seems inaccurate

  • Forecasts are predictions and can change
  • Weather is based on the average location of visits
  • For distant visit locations, check individual property forecasts

Weather not updating

  • Weather data is cached for 15 minutes to improve performance
  • Force refresh by reloading the page
  • Check your internet connection

Limitations

  • Weather is a forecast, not a guarantee
  • Very localised weather (like afternoon storms) may not be predicted
  • Mountain and coastal areas may have microclimates not captured
  • Properties need complete addresses for automatic geocoding to work
